HTC Tattoo Review
Here is our latest review on the HTC Tattoo handset. Like all others we tested this phone for 3 days to get an honest opinion of the handset!

We give the HTC Tattoo a Review Score of 90%. We recommend the HTC Tattoo handset for age 11+.

It is not like HTC to release a budget smartphones but they must have realised that there is a market for such a mobile. The result: the HTC Tattoo handset. Priced at slightly lower than midrange and boasting of an Android OS, this budget mobile seems to have what it takes to take over the mass-produced, affordable phones. But does it, really? Can it become the king of affordable smartphones? Read our HTC Tattoo review to know the answer.

18 Points Looks - Review HTC Tattoo Looks (Max 20 Points)
We expected the HTC Tattoo handset we unboxed to have that young market appeal but the colour suggested otherwise. Sure, the plastic major material is more suited for those with limited budgets but the handset does not feel all that cheap. We kind of liked the rounded bottom as well but we are still big fans of the more compact high-end HTC mobiles.

Like we mentioned, this is a budget mobile and you can't really expect it to have the same features as the more expensive HTC handsets. The touchscreen is resistive, making your fingers work harder to navigate the phone. It has a 3.15MP camera without auto focus or flash. But it has a radio, GPS, digital compass, media player, and expandable memory.

5 Points Ease of Use - Review HTC Tattoo Ease Of Use (Max 5 Points)
Perhaps because it was geared towards young users or because it was not meant to rival the big boys, this handset is quite easy to navigate. From the main menu to the sub-folders, you will not get lost once you get the hang of it.

5 Points Battery - Review HTC Tattoo Battery (Max 5 Points)
On standby, you phone will stay awake for up to 520 hours. Talk time battery is up to 5 hours. These numbers isn't so bad when you really think about it. As long as you know which apps will drain the juice fast and you are sensible enough to switch them off, your HTC Tattoo handset will serve you well.

5 Points Applications - Review HTC Tattoo Applications (Max 5 Points)
We headed straight to the Android Market to try out apps that seemed fun. We tried the ones for social networking and liked the many options you'll have just so you can update your Facebook account. Of course, the YouTube client was also important because the browser lacks Flash support. The document viewer apps were also quite nice. We also wasted quite a huge chuck of time looking to the games.

4 Points Internet - Review HTC Tattoo Internet User Experience (Max 5 Points)
We like Flash support on a browser, and sadly, this handset has none. And while the browser is fast, we did not like the fact that the quality of the screen made browsing less enjoyable. A screen with a better resolution would have given us a more fantastic time surfing the web. Still, this is a budget mobile and we must take what's given to us.

3 Points Internet Speed - Review HTC Tattoo Internet Speed & Connection (Max 3 Points)
Speed is not a problem with this handset. You have WiFi and 3G and quad-band.

4 Points Texting - Review HTC Tattoo Text Messaging Experience (Max 5 Points)
A single line for composing texts messages will not do, in our honest opinion. The editor is simple but we need more space to actually view the whole message.

10 Points Menu - Review HTC Tattoo Menu Usability / Controllability (Max 10 Points)
From the homescreen, you can see buttons for accessing the WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity. These functions make it easier to manage the whole mobile. Aside from that, the Sense UI present in HTC phones was also used. This is one aspect of the mobile that feels quite expensive, if you ask us. While a better screen would have resulted to a better menu navigation experience, we'll take what we can at this point. Usability and controllability are no problems as you can add widgets, move them around, and give more importance to functions that you use often.

9 Points Features Usability - Review HTC Tattoo Main Feature Usability (Max 10 Points)
The features are easy to find and use. But then, they lack additional functions that would have made using them more enjoyable. Examples are lack of Flash support for the browser and no auto-focus and flash for the camera.

4 Points Enjoyment - HTC Tattoo Reviewer's Enjoyment (Max 5 Points)
While we knew that we were dealing with only a budget smartphone, we still felt a bit of longing for the wonderful performance of its high-end brothers.

    1 Points - Like / Dislikes (Max 2 Points)
There is nothing to hate about this handset, really. Still, we can say that there are more feature-packed smartphones out there that are just as cheap. Still, we appreciate HTC's goal to make smartphones more accessible to the masses.

90 Total Points Review - Final Thoughts on the HTC Tattoo
As far as budget touchscreen smartphones go, the HTC Tattoo handset can hold its own. After all, it has features that only an HTC mobile can offer. If our HTC Tattoo review does not convince you fully, know that there are great pay monthly plans out there that will make this handset even more lovable. Some plans give you unlimited texts, unlimited landline calls, and the handset free. If these are not great deals, we don't know what are.
