We give the HTC Hero a Review Score of 93%.
We recommend the HTC Hero handset for age 11+.
With a name like that, you would expect the mobile to deliver the heroics when it comes to performance and features, right? That's what we expected, too, and we must say that were pleasantly surprised with the results. If you want to know what we are talking about, read out HTC Hero review here.

Review HTC Hero Looks (Max 20 Points)
We know that a lot of people bank on the uniqueness of their gadgets. If you want a touchscreen mobile that will definitely make heads turn, do not go for the usual. The HTC Hero is your answer. What makes this handset not like the other touchscreen smartphone in the market is the slightly jutting out bottom. Reminiscent, perhaps, of landline phone handsets? We don't know for sure but we like it. Add to that the brushed aluminum surface and you have got one goodlooking mobile phone. Trust us, we loved the way the HTC Hero handset looked in our hands.
13 Points Features -
Review HTC Hero Features (Max 15 Points) This handset got all major features covered. It has a capacitive touchscreen, 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth, microUSB, 5MP camera, HTML browser, GPS, Android OS, media player, and organiser. Yes, it comes with games, too. These are pretty much what you want your mobile phone to have, right? We, however, wished that it also came with radio, secondary camera, and better camera features.
10 Points Ease of Use -
Review HTC Hero Ease Of Use (Max 10 Points) Very easy, we tell you. The front buttons helped us find out way around the mobile easily enough. Of course, it helped that the touchscreen was sensitive as well.
5 Points Battery -
Review HTC Hero Battery (Max 5 Points) For this HTC Hero review, we used the handset to the fullest so we had to recharge it more often than a normal user would. We have to say that under normal usage, your HTC Hero handset will still have enough battery to last you several days.
5 Points Applications -
Review HTC Hero Applications (Max 5 Points) This is an Android phone so it basically came with preinstalled Google apps. Some of them are the Google Maps, YouTube app, and Google Talk. Other preloaded apps were ones for social networking (Facebook and Twitter), QuickOffice, and PDF Viewer. On the world wide web is also a wide array of Android apps available for your perusal. Thankfully, the 3G and WiFi of this handset made for easier applications downloading.
5 Points Internet -
Review HTC Hero Internet User Experience (Max 5 Points) We cannot love the browser of the HTC Hero handset enough. It's fast and comes with Flash support. This means that you can enjoy animated and heavy sites on your mobile. Of course, with the touchscreen features of the handset, you can zoom with ease, as well.
3 Points Internet Speed -
Review HTC Hero Internet Speed & Connection (Max 3 Points) As mentioned, this handset got WiFi and 3G. We mainly used WiFi to test the browser of this handset but performance through 3G was also impressive. We recommend having a plan with a mobile network that gives decent 3G services so that you can use this handset to its fullest potential.
4 Points Texting -
Review HTC Hero Text Messaging Experience (Max 5 Points) The screen full QWERTY keyboard works both on portrait and landscape mode. An alpha-numeric keypad on portrait would have been nice. Texts are presented in threaded format for your ease, though.
8 Points Menu -
Review HTC Hero Menu Usability / Controllability (Max 10 Points) The HTC Hero handset boasts of Sense UI. It is beautiful and makes for one enjoyable mobile experience. We loved the scenes that helped made it easier for you to navigate the mobile. However, editing the folders under the scenes was impossible. Still, you have the ability to add widgets to the homescreen and for some people, that matters a lot.
9 Points Features Usability -
Review HTC Hero Main Feature Usability (Max 10 Points) The camera, GPS, browser, and media players were very easy to use. Once you get to know them and familiriase yourself with where they are placed, you can be able to make use of them without any difficulty.
10 Points Enjoyment -
HTC Hero Reviewer's Enjoyment (Max 10 Points) We must say that tinkering with this handset was just delightful. It is always great working with a capacitive touchscreen because our thumbs and fingers are never abused to the point of exhaustion. We also loved the part where we tried out apps for the handset.
1 Points -
Like / Dislikes (Max 2 Points) No full points because we feel that some features could have been made better. We like taking photos so a flash for the camera would have been more useful. Still, if you don't mind a camera with a bit of plain features, you will not have complaints about this handset.
93 Total Points Review
Final Thoughts on the HTC Hero Our final words on the HTC Hero handset will be for those who aim to have unique mobiles that are great for further modifications and can be greatly improved with wonderful apps. If you are this type of mobile user, the HTC Hero is for you. Your handset will not look like most touchscreen mobiles carried around by mobile users today. You can also pick fresh apps off the Android market to have a more enjoyable mobile experience. Of course, we also suggest that you get a plan that comes with unlimited mobile Internet. An Internet Texter plan on 3, for instance, will be more than ideal since they have the biggest 3G coverage in the UK today.
